Has Imran Khan been rejected for the Nobel Prize?

The Nobel Institute has rejected Imran Khan’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing it as a political maneuver designed to sway Pakistani voters in Norway.

Christian Berg Harpviken, the institute’s director, voiced strong concerns about the premature publicity of the nomination, asserting that it was intended for political purposes.

This marks an unprecedented move, as it’s the first time a political leader’s Nobel nomination has been used in such a way, potentially undermining the Nobel Prize’s credibility.

The nomination, announced by Norway’s Centre Party, has sparked mixed reactions. However, the Nobel Institute reiterated that the nomination and selection process is governed by strict and transparent guidelines, and using it for political advantage is unacceptable.

Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was previously nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for his efforts to promote peace in South Asia.
