The start of Celo completes its transition to the second layer of Ethereum to enhance security and compatibility

Celo has successfully transformed from an independent first-layer blockchain network to a second-layer network based on Ethereum, using the 'OP Stack' package from 'Optimism' and 'EigenDA' to ensure data availability.

The new network went live today, March 26, at block 31056500, and 'Forno', the main contract service, is ready to support it.

The Celo team described this upgrade as a step that enhances integration with the Ethereum ecosystem while maintaining its unique features, such as low transaction fees and high processing speed.

Rene Reinsberg, co-founder and president of the Celo Foundation, confirmed that this upgrade represents a natural progression towards building a more inclusive blockchain economy, enhancing security and compatibility for millions of users.

The transition came after 20 months of planning since the proposal from 'cLabs' in July 2023, driven by improvements in liquidity and security and enhanced developer compatibility.

Marek Olziewski, CEO of 'cLabs', explained that this step combines the best features of networks to expand web3 globally.

This upgrade adds the 'Celo' ecosystem, which includes over 1000 projects, to the Ethereum network, enhancing innovation and activity within it.
