The interim chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mark T. Uyeda, announced the creation of a task force aimed at developing a clear regulatory framework for crypto assets.

The group will work with the SEC's technical team and members of civil society to establish standards that provide a realistic path for the registration of new assets, create 'sensible' information disclosure structures, and implement enforcement resources judiciously, according to the statement.

According to the announcement, the SEC had been using supervisory instruments to regulate the industry retroactively, which caused confusion and created a 'hostile environment for innovation'. 'The SEC can do better than this,' it states. The task force will hold public discussions soon. #SECCryptoRoundtable
