Digital ruble: Russia is testing the capabilities of smart contracts in Tatarstan

According to the Delovaya Gazeta newspaper, the Central Bank "approached the authorities of Tatarstan with a proposal to test some of the CBR
mechanisms". In response, the Russian Finance Ministry formed a special working group to support the introduction of the digital ruble in the region. This comes less than a month after the bank announced the indefinite postponement of the nationwide launch of the CBDC, which was originally scheduled for August 2025.
Tatarstan's Finance Ministry will cooperate with the bank to test conditional CBDC subsidies from the republican budget convertible into #smart contracts. According to the ministry, the digital ruble test platform will independently track transactions based on predetermined rules.
a working group headed by Tatarstan's Finance Minister Marat Faizrakhmanov and including Digital Development Minister Airat Khairullin plans to complete the test by the end of the third quarter of 2025.
In parallel with the tests in Tatarstan, Moscow Metro announced plans to expand pilot operations with the digital ruble. The capital's transportation system will be the first in the country to start working with the Russian #digital currency in 2023.
Maxim Liksutov, deputy head of Moscow's Department of Transportation and Road Infrastructure Development, said that the metro is "conducting joint tests with the Central Bank and [major bank] VTB". The testing concerns the card "Troika" - Moscow reusable contactless smart card, allowing passengers to buy tickets and top up their balance by means of universal QR-code of digital ruble wallets.
Last month, Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina said that a new date for the launch of the CBDC would be announced in the near future.
