Argentine lawyer requests Interpol to arrest crypto entrepreneur Hayden Davis involved in the LIBRA scandal
According to Decrypt, the Argentine LIBRA crypto scandal continues to escalate. Argentine lawyer Gregorio Dalbon has formally submitted a petition to Chief Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano and Judge María Servini, requesting that an Interpol red notice be issued for Hayden Davis, a key figure in the LIBRA crypto project, to facilitate his arrest in the United States and extradition back to Argentina.
Dalbon pointed out in the petition that Davis poses a significant flight risk, as his financial resources and residence abroad may allow him to evade judicial proceedings. Davis is accused of playing a central role in the creation and promotion of LIBRA, leading to substantial losses for investors.
The LIBRA scandal not only implicates Davis but also involves Argentine President Javier Milei, as he publicly promoted the Solana-based meme coin LIBRA, causing its market value to soar to $4 billion in a short period, followed by a rapid crash that triggered market panic. The president deleted related social media posts after the incident and claimed to have no prior knowledge about the specifics of the token.
Earlier this month, Argentine prosecutors ordered the freezing of $100 million in crypto assets related to the LIBRA scandal. If the request for a red notice is approved, Interpol will issue a notification to 195 member countries to locate and arrest Davis, but whether countries will execute it depends on their respective laws and extradition agreements.
