Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was placed in solitary confinement after giving an interview to journalist Tucker Carlson. It turned out that the conversation took place without the approval of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, which may have been the reason for his isolation.

The Bankman-Fried family is seeking a pardon

The parents of the convicted, Joe Bankman and Barbara Fried, both law professors, have sought legal advice to try to obtain a presidential pardon for their son.

Their hopes were likely bolstered after Donald Trump, upon becoming president, pardoned Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the darknet Silk Road. Ulbricht served 12 years in prison for running this illegal platform before being released as part of Trump's campaign promises.

The possibility of a pardon for Bankman-Fried

The situation with the former FTX head is significantly more complicated, as he was convicted on seven serious charges related to the multi-billion dollar losses of the cryptocurrency exchange's clients. Despite this, he has not pleaded guilty.

Notably, during the interview, Tucker Carlson did not ask Bankman-Fried about a possible pardon from Donald Trump. However, after the conversation aired, the odds of this, according to Polymarket, nearly doubled, although they still remain low—only 4%.
