Ethereum Pectra Upgrade is in the Sepolia Test Phase
The Ethereum Pectra upgrade has been successfully launched on the Sepolia test network.
The Holesky test network faced issues, but the Sepolia deployment was flawless.
The anticipated Pectra upgrade from Ethereum has surpassed a major milestone. The upgrade was successfully launched on the Sepolia test network on March 5 at 7:29 AM UTC. This marks the second testing phase after a previous attempt on the Holesky test network faced issues.
Pectra is the largest upgrade for Ethereum since 2024. It includes 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) designed to enhance spatial signature, wallet functionality, and network performance. The update combines execution layer changes (Brag) and consensus layer improvements (Electra).
EIP-7251 significantly increases the validator stake limit from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. This change addresses shortcomings in Ethereum's spatial signature system. Currently, validators must split large stakes across multiple contracts. The new limit simplifies the spatial signature process for large-scale participants.
EIP-7702 introduces smart contract capabilities for wallets. This proposal pushes Ethereum toward account abstraction. Users may soon be able to pay fees using stablecoins, set up automatic payments, or recover wallets without seed phrases.
