It is a rumor that the hacker destroyed 15,000 ETH!
mETH Protocol responded on X. In response to the Bybit security incident, the team took multiple emergency measures to mitigate the impact. First, the protocol's built-in 8-hour withdrawal delay mechanism successfully won the team valuable response time, suspended cmETH withdrawals in time, and prevented unauthorized withdrawals.
Secondly, mETH Protocol blacklisted the hacker's wallet address, effectively preventing further cmETH transfers and operations in the protocol. In addition, the protocol also reduced cmETH liquidity on Mantle network L2. In the end, mETH Protocol successfully recovered 15,000 cmETH from the hacker's address and restored the integrity of the cmETH supply.
In fact, everyone only looked at the first step of the transaction and thought that it was transferred to the zero address and destroyed. But in the transaction details, there is a transfer from the zero address. Null is an empty address, not a dead address.
Bybit hackers previously attempted to release 15,000 cmETH pledges, but the transaction was rolled back by the withdrawal contract. Later, they authorized the trading rights for cmETH in DODO, but may not have taken further action due to insufficient liquidity. Later, Mantle: Deployer 1 transferred 15,000 cmETH out.
