#LitecoinETF Litecoin was released via an open source client currently named Litecoin Core on Github on October 7, 2011.[5] The current version of this client (released on May 6, 2019) is 0.17.1.[6] Other open source projects such as the Electrum Litecoin light wallet (based on the original Electrum client developed for the Bitcoin network) were also released.
The Litecoin project has occasionally been covered by some media outlets as an alternative to Bitcoin with lower transaction fees, much like Dash and Bitcoin Cash.
In May 2017, SegWit support was activated in the Litecoin software.
In September 2017, the first atomic transactions took place. Within 4 days, transactions were made between Litecoin and Decred, Litecoin and Vertcoin, Litecoin and Bitcoin.
