Today, February 21, 2025, the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit suffered a massive hack that resulted in the theft of approximately $1.5 billion in Ethereum. This is the largest theft in the history of digital assets. Hackers gained access to the exchange’s offline wallet, which was considered more secure than online wallets. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou confirmed the theft and said that the company is receiving credit from partners to compensate users. Despite the incident, Bybit assures that customer funds are safe and transactions continue without interruption. After the attack, the price of Ethereum fell by 6%, and users began to withdraw their funds en masse. Bybit is investigating the event and is working with blockchain experts to track and return the stolen funds.
In addition, Bybit announced the suspension of services in France from January 8, 2025 due to increased regulatory pressure. The company urged users to withdraw their assets before this deadline to avoid complications or restrictions on access to funds.
