Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, is clearly taking a hard stance against the degradation of the crypto industry. He stated that if Ethereum becomes a 'blockchain casino,' he would rather leave than witness the original vision being distorted.
Outrage Over 'Gambling' in Crypto
In an AMA discussion on February 20, #Vitalik expressed disappointment over Ethereum being criticized for not supporting blockchain betting platforms. He called this 'moral decay,' as some members in the crypto industry are only concerned with quick profits without considering the core values of blockchain technology.
This criticism is believed to be aimed at $SOL , a platform attracting many highly speculative memecoin projects. Meanwhile, internal Ethereum is concerned about losing its position if appropriate steps are not taken. Nevertheless, Vitalik still believes that Ethereum can uphold its ideals if the community truly acts.
Ethereum Foundation Changes Strategy
Vitalik does not stop at warning; he also urges the Ethereum Foundation to adjust its operations. Previously, this organization was criticized for selling $ETH to maintain its operations. However, in February 2025, they changed their strategy by allocating 45,000 ETH (about 120 million USD) into DeFi protocols like Compound, Spark, and Aave instead of selling on the market.
Additionally, #EthereumFoundation is considering staking ETH as a long-term funding source instead of continuing to sell assets. This is seen as a positive move to maintain stability for the ecosystem.
Do Not Let Ethereum Degrade
Vitalik emphasizes that Ethereum is not just a cryptocurrency, but a vision. He calls on the community to act to protect the ecosystem from opportunistic forces. If Ethereum becomes a tool for profit for speculative models, it will lose its original essence.
Vitalik has declared war on those who want to turn Ethereum into a casino. Will the community stand with him to uphold this ideal? #anhbacong
