Microsoft launches first quantum computing chip Majorana 1, which may threaten cryptocurrency
According to Cointelegraph, Microsoft released its first quantum computing chip, Majorana 1, on February 19, joining the ranks of companies pursuing the technology. The chip is made of semiconductors and superconductors, using substances different from solids, gases and liquids.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that this breakthrough will shorten the time it takes to realize quantum computers from decades to a few years. Microsoft Executive Vice President Jason Zander said that it took nearly a hundred years for this theory to be verified after it was proposed in 1937.
Microsoft's research results were published in the journal Nature on February 19. Quantum chips process information differently from traditional computer chips. Quantum bits can represent 0 and 1 at the same time, thus solving problems faster.
