Europe Prepares US$206 Billion AI Investment to Compete with US-China
The European Union plans to spend 200 billion euros or equivalent to US$206.15 billion for the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This step aims to catch up with the United States and China in building more complex AI models.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that Europe wants to become a center for AI innovation. The plan is stated in a program called InvestAI, which includes 20 billion euros for the construction of large-scale AI factories (gigafactories).
"We want Europe to be one of the main leaders in the field of artificial intelligence, which means AI must be part of our daily lives," said Ursula at the AI Action Summit in Paris.
The program will also be strengthened with an additional 50 billion euros to encourage investment from the private sector, which has previously promised 150 billion euros for the development of AI in Europe.
It is known that this initiative emerged after the United States announced the Stargate project, a US$100 billion joint venture to build an AI data center. Meanwhile, China is also advancing by developing an AI model that can compete with US technology.
