Why is short selling not cost-effective?

Theoretically,

shorting can earn at most 1 times, but may lose infinitely;

longing can lose at most 1 times, but may earn infinitely.

Although some people refute that since all altcoins in the currency circle have strong gravity (team shipments), short selling is not as bad as imagined.

However, I still rarely short (except for hedging), and the deeper reason is:
