‼️Google Removes Promise Not to Weaponize AI
Google has removed a section from its AI Principles that pledged to avoid weaponizing the technology, Bloomberg reported.
The publication noted that the company’s AI Principles previously included a section that promised not to use AI applications and technologies “to cause harm, including weapons.” That wording is no longer in place.
In response to a request for comment, Google shared a link to the blog post.
Google’s former head of ethical AI, Margaret Mitchell, said the removal of the “harm” phrase could indicate the company is working on technology that could kill people.
The change is part of a broader policy review by major AI companies. Meta previously opened its neural networks to government agencies and defense contractors in the United States and its allies. Anthropic has taken a similar step.
In January, OpenAI signed an agreement with the US National Laboratories, under which they will apply new AI models to scientific research in the field of nuclear weapons.
