Nine years after the most serious catastrophe of Ethereum, when the community decided to conduct a hard fork of the blockchain to reverse the infamous $50 million DAO hack transactions, the network is facing another type of dilemma—a leadership crisis, according to its community.

At the center of the scandal is Aya Miyaguchi, the International Director of the Ethereum Foundation (EF), a former Japanese high school teacher who took the top position at the foundation in 2018. Her focus on 'zen' and creating an 'infinite garden' where all stakeholders of Ethereum get along with each other—while the network continues to lose ground to Solana—has led to increasingly loud calls for her resignation and even threats.

In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced that he had taken control of the foundation. He criticized the ongoing online attacks on Miyaguchi and assured the disgruntled that a restructuring of the leadership is underway.
