According to data released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2024, Japan leads the list of countries with the highest debts in relation to GDP, with a ratio of 248.7%.

The debt-to-GDP ratio measures how much a country owes in relation to the total value of its economy. Calculated by dividing public debt by GDP, it indicates the government's ability to pay its obligations.

Sudan comes next with 237.1%, while Singapore occupies third place, with 175.8%.
