The Akademik Lomonosov, the world’s sole floating nuclear power plant, has produced 1 billion kWh of electricity since starting operations in May 2020. Stationed in Russia's Arctic region, it meets over 60% of the Chaun-Bilibino power grid’s energy needs, while also providing power for mining, heating, and water desalination for around 5,000 people.
Powered by two KLT-40S reactors, it generates 70 MW of electricity and utilizes excess heat for heating purposes. A recent fuel replacement reflects Rosatom's commitment to sustainable nuclear energy, with plans for additional floating nuclear plants in the future.
