The day #bitcoin bought pizzas
In May 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by completing the first known Bitcoin transaction for a physical good. At that time, Bitcoin was virtually unknown and worth cents.
Laszlo posted a peculiar offer on a Bitcoin forum: he was willing to pay 10,000 $BTC BTC (yes, ten thousand bitcoins) to anyone who would send him two large pizzas. A user accepted the offer, ordered two pizzas from Papa John’s for about $25, and sent them to Laszlo, who fulfilled the payment of 10,000 BTC.
At that moment, no one imagined that those bitcoins would someday reach astronomical values. As of today, 10,000 BTC would be worth millions of dollars. That’s why this event is known as Bitcoin Pizza Day, celebrated every May 22nd by the crypto community as a reminder of Bitcoin's humble beginnings.
