Omnity Hub of the Omnity Network is a trustless integrated Bitcoin hub that connects various chains to Bitcoin without off-chain processes or centralized components.
Omnity Hub currently supports three main assets in the Bitcoin ecosystem: BTC, runes, and BRC20.
Omnity Hub connects to over 20 EVM chains, Bitcoin L2, Solana, Osmosis, TON, and ICP, all integrated with native Bitcoin.
Omnity Hub quickly gained adoption after its launch in the second quarter of 2024.
As we say goodbye to 2024, it’s worth reflecting on how we got to this point, sharing milestones along the way, and looking forward to the exciting new products we are building for 2025.
Omnity Network 2024
After years of working to solve interoperability challenges between different chains, 2024 is a breakthrough year for Omnity.
In January 2024, Omnity released its white paper.
Omnity set the release date for the Bitcoin halving in April 2024 and began developing Omnity Hub - the first completely trustless full-chain interoperability stack designed to connect all blockchains and potentially scale Bitcoin on-chain.
With the halving of Bitcoin's block 840,000 in April 2024, the author of Ordinals, Casey Rodarmor, released the Runes standard, a Bitcoin meta-protocol based on fungible UTXO, and Omnity launched Omnity Hub to support Runes.
Omnity also inscribed the HOPE•YOU•GET•RICH (#431) rune on Bitcoin blocks 840000:846 to showcase the capabilities of its new hub.
HOPE•YOU•GET•RICH was minted in five days and then added to the Internet Computer as RICH.OT ($RICH).
Using the trustless interoperability stack of Omnity Hub, a demonstration app called Red Envelope has been launched. Red Envelope allows users to send runes directly to any social media platform without the need for a wallet or gas fees.
With the collaboration of the ICP Hubs community, the Red Envelope attracted 30,000 new users within two months.
As of the end of the second quarter, Omnity Hub has connected to Bitcoin and the Internet Computer, supporting HOPE•YOU•GET•RICH rune, ICP, BTC.
The launch of Omnity's on-chain indexer (Ord Indexer) provides developers with real-time and accurate data about Bitcoin assets to build novel financial applications such as yield farming, lending, and derivatives.
Omnity's Ord Indexer is the first on-chain, completely trustless Bitcoin asset indexer that actively pulls blocks from RPC services, allowing users to interact with various dApps more easily without manually tracking assets or risking losses during cross-chain transactions.
As the third quarter comes to a close, Omnity Hub has connected to 13 chains and supports 15 runes.
In the last quarter of 2024, Omnity designed a Turing-complete, bridge-less Bitcoin development environment with advanced programmability that embraces and interacts with Bitcoin's UTXO model, which Omnity calls the Runes Exchange Environment (REE).
Omnity released the REE white paper in November 2024.
With REE, rune traders do not need to lock their Bitcoin assets in cross-chain bridges, instead, they interact with smart contracts by signing PSBT (partially signed Bitcoin transactions) using their Bitcoin wallets, with transactions settled in Bitcoin.
While the rune standard itself allows developers to issue stablecoins, utility tokens, governance tokens, meme coins, and other community-driven projects directly on Bitcoin, REE allows traders to completely exchange these runes on-chain in a trustless environment while retaining self-custody.
The first rune AMM DEX REE and RichSwap will be launched in January 2025.
