Crypto Industry, Apple CEO Donates US$1 Million for Trump's Inauguration
Apple CEO Tim Cook surprised the public with an unexpected move by donating US$1 million to the inauguration committee of US President-elect Donald Trump.
As an Alabama native, Cook stated that the tradition of the presidential inauguration is an important moment for the nation. According to him, this contribution is a form of support for unity in society.
This large donation places Cook with a number of other technology leaders who support the event. Previously, Cook was known to have met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, in a meeting that was also attended by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
In addition to Cook, the inauguration committee also received major support from various companies, especially in the crypto sector. Ripple (XRP) donated US$5 million in the form of the digital currency XRP, and became the largest contributor so far.
Meanwhile, crypto platform Coinbase and companies Kraken and Ondo Finance each donated US$1 million. It is known that the inauguration committee has succeeded in collecting funds of up to US$200 million and it is estimated that this will increase ahead of the inauguration date of January 20, 2025.
