Meme Coins Are Getting More Attractive In 2024
The $129 billion meme coin industry is once again dominating social media discussions. In 2024, LayerZero Labs’ Reva Teese called meme coins the key to the narrative war of 2024. That same year, their market cap surged 600%. As a result, perceptions of them have shifted from being “just jokes” to “legitimate, community-driven digital assets.”

Solana وMeme Coins
Solana is one of the major ecosystems at the forefront of the meme coin revolution. It hosts five of the top ten meme tokens in the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market cap. These Solana coins, which include Bonk, Pengu, ai16z, DogWifHat, and Fartcoin, have a total market cap of $22 billion.
An anonymous poll among Solana founders revealed that 85% of respondents had a neutral to somewhat positive opinion of meme coins.
Meme Coins vs AI Agent Coins
Another newcomer to the cryptocurrency market is AI Agent coins. The AI craze is not going away anytime soon, as the crypto market is jumping on the AI trend created by Nvidia.
Haseeb Qureshi, managing partner at Dragonfly Capital, revealed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he is betting on the novelty of AI Agent tokens. He noted that they will likely overtake meme coins in 2025, but he expects the trend to fade earlier than expected.
