Speaking of it, Solana's rise is indeed impressive. From transaction speed to throughput, Solana is rapidly catching up to Ethereum.

However, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake stated that although Solana is currently performing strongly, its architectural design itself does not possess long-term scalability, and it may face 'bottlenecks' in the future due to technical limitations.

He believes that the technological advantage that Solana currently enjoys will sooner or later be left behind. Just like a brief 'golden period', once it passes, Solana will have to face more complex challenges.

Ethereum is steadily advancing

Unlike Solana's rapid competition, Ethereum has long targeted long-term stability. Although Ethereum currently relies on Layer 2 technologies (like Rollups) to solve scalability issues, this is also to build a more robust infrastructure.

Drake means that Ethereum is not in a hurry to compete with Solana in terms of speed, but rather focuses on 'security' and 'health'. If Solana wants to remain competitive, it must compete with Ethereum at the application layer and Layer 2.

The real battleground of competition: Layer 2 vs. Solana

So, where is the real enemy that Solana has to face? Drake believes that the competition between Solana and Ethereum is not in Layer 1, but rather comes from Ethereum's Layer 2 solutions. Simply put, Solana's current advantage is not just in its technical architecture, but more in its confrontation with Ethereum's Layer 2. This 'battleground' is more complex and challenging than just transaction speed.

Although Solana does excel in certain areas, its future remains full of uncertainties. If it cannot resolve its architectural shortcomings, Solana's 'golden age' may indeed come to an end. In contrast, Ethereum has long been prepared with a backup plan, gradually achieving scalability and low fees through Layer 2 technology, leaving more room for the future.

It is clear that Solana's market popularity is indeed very high right now, but whether it can maintain such growth momentum depends on whether it can find breakthroughs technically. Ethereum, on the other hand, is steadily building long-term competitiveness based on Layer 2 technology.
