Donald Trump announced his new cryptocurrency project, World Liberty Financial, during a two-hour livestream, offering few details about the platform. One of the project’s leaders, Zach Volkman, led the announcement of the launch of non-transferable governance tokens (WLFI), which grant the right to submit proposals and vote on issues related to the platform.
The project’s plans include lending and borrowing systems in collaboration with the DeFi app Aave. While Trump has spoken broadly about the importance of cryptocurrencies, he has not provided much detail about the project. In terms of regulations, token sales will be limited to accredited investors in the United States, as a precaution due to regulatory uncertainty in this area. It has also been noted that token sales to non-US persons will be subject to certain restrictions.
Following the launch of the project, the price of the WLFI token dropped by 96%, reflecting the lack of enthusiasm among the crypto community for the project. World Liberty Financial aims to remove barriers in traditional financial systems, but details about its functionality and how it works are still limited, reflecting disappointment among traders.
