Bitcoin’s Lightning Network has faced slowing growth recently, with its capacity falling to 1,273 BTC from a high of 5,308 BTC in July, showing a significant decrease in usage.
The number of nodes and channels also dropped accordingly, indicating fewer network users. This change sparked debate in the community, with some placing the blame on Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy, who believed that his emphasis on Bitcoin's status as a means of transaction affected interest in the Lightning Network.
Despite weak network indicators, Bitcoin is seeing positive progress on the payments front. Louisiana has shown support for the new technology by allowing residents to use Bitcoin to pay for state services via the Lightning Network.
In addition, former President Trump used Bitcoin to purchase food for the first time at a Bitcoin-themed bar, further increasing the attention of Bitcoin.
At the same time, Bitcoin’s monthly active addresses have grown steadily, recently reaching 10.7 million, showing the healthy development of the network. However, NFT sales fell by 46% on the Bitcoin blockchain, reflecting the overall market downturn.
