Polymarket Bets $155,000 on Harris Winning the Debate
Democrat Kamala Harris is poised to win the upcoming debate against 2024 Republican nominee Donald Trump. According to the rules on Polymarket, "This market will decide 'Kamala' if the Ipsos/538 poll shows Kamala Harris won the debate hosted by ABC." By Monday afternoon, Harris was leading with a 76% chance of winning. Opinions have begun to circulate from Polymarket bettors, adding to the theme.
“Look at Trump’s rallies in 2024,” one commenter wrote. “He’s lost his confidence. Kamala may not have his confidence, but she’s a nerd and will easily ‘win’ the debate, at least according to the media,” the commenter continued. Another disagreed with the commenter, stating:
Trump was 3:1 all day. Kamala just wasn't ready for high pressure situations. Got beat up in the DNC debate. She was giggling because she was nervous and tense. The Democrats had a real primary and picked an electable candidate.
In early August 2019, after her first debate in June, Harris's national poll numbers were still low, hovering between 7% and 9%, according to records. While Harris had a 76% chance of winning the debate, another Polymarket bet put Trump ahead with a 52% chance of winning, compared to Harris's 46%.
Trump also holds a lead in four of the six swing states, claiming Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Georgia, according to Polymarket bettors. There's also a 27% chance that the two candidates will shake hands before the debate begins, according to another bet. Polymarket users are also betting on whether Trump will drop phrases like "Border Czar," "Drill Baby Drill," "Comrade Kamala" and whether he will say "Make America Great Again (MAGA)" three times.
