Bitcoin is facing intense selling pressure right now.
BTC has fallen by more than $3,800 over the past 48 hours, dropping below the $78,000 mark and erasing over $80 billion from the total crypto market value.
The decline accelerated after more than $620 million in long positions were liquidated within 24 hours. As leveraged trades were forced to close, selling pressure increased rapidly.
What’s causing the crash?
One major factor is the rise in US Treasury yields along with higher-than-expected inflation data. Investors are becoming concerned that interest rates may remain elevated for a longer period, which typically hurts risk assets such as cryptocurrencies.
At the same time, oil prices are rising due to geopolitical tensions, creating a broader risk-off sentiment in global markets. During uncertain periods, traders usually move away from highly volatile assets first.
Bitcoin was already showing weakness after excitement surrounding the CLARITY Act began to fade. The market had rallied strongly on hopes of positive regulation, but once the momentum cooled, many traders started taking profits.
Then the liquidation cascade began.
Large leveraged long positions were liquidated one after another, triggering additional selling pressure and driving BTC even lower.
Right now, fear is dominating the market, and traders are reducing exposure to risky assets across the board.
