JPMorgan Blocks Hong Kong Employees from Accessing Anthropic as Wall Street's AI Compliance Battle Heats Up

Following Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan has announced that its Hong Kong branch employees will no longer have access to Anthropic's Claude model. The reason is that Anthropic's terms of service exclude the Greater China region (including Hong Kong) to primarily prevent Chinese teams from 'distilling' the model through high-frequency calls.

Currently, neither ChatGPT nor Claude can be accessed directly in Hong Kong. Wall Street banks are tightening internal compliance due to geopolitical restrictions imposed by U.S. AI companies.

Why it matters: U.S. AI export controls are extending from chip-level restrictions to model access, with multinational financial institutions becoming the first 'sandwiched layer,' facing new challenges to Hong Kong's status as an international financial hub on the AI infrastructure front.
