Hong Kong's digital bond market hits another milestone: The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation has issued approximately HKD 12 billion worth of public digital bonds, becoming the first public institution in Hong Kong to issue digital bonds.

This issuance includes HKD 6 billion for a 2-year bond, HKD 2.5 billion for a 5-year bond, and RMB 3 billion for a 3-year bond, with the 5-year HKD bond setting a new record for the longest maturity of digital bonds in Hong Kong. The peak subscription reached about HKD 24 billion equivalent, with over 100 accounts participating, covering central banks, banks, insurance, asset management, and other institutions.

The highlight is not just the "on-chain issuance" but also the participation of public institutions, cross-currency involvement, longer durations, and increased engagement from international funds, indicating that Hong Kong is moving from pilot projects to standardizing tokenized finance as a core infrastructure.
