KYC = Know Your Customer. It's the annoying paperwork CEXs and regulated platforms make you do before you can trade.

Why it exists:
• Governments want to track money flows
• Prevents money laundering and fraud
• Keeps exchanges legally compliant

What they ask for:
• ID (passport/driver's license)
• Proof of address
• Selfie verification
• Sometimes source of funds

The tradeoff:
✅ Access to fiat on/off ramps
✅ Higher withdrawal limits
✅ Legal protection if exchange gets hacked

❌ Zero privacy
❌ Your data can leak (happened multiple times)
❌ Governments can freeze your account

Degen take: If you're serious about crypto, split your stack. Keep some on KYC exchanges for cashing out, but hold your real bags in non-custodial wallets where no one can touch them.

Privacy isn't a crime. It's a feature.
