According to a report by Deep Tide TechFlow, on May 5, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed replacing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V in a blog post to enhance blockchain performance and simplify architecture.

Vitalik stated that Ethereum is expected to achieve a level of simplicity comparable to Bitcoin within five years. RISC-V, as an open-source instruction set, allows applications to run directly at the execution layer, with certain operations speeding up by 100 times while maintaining smart contract compatibility.

Additionally, the RISC-V architecture will reduce the cost of creating new infrastructure, lower protocol maintenance costs, decrease vulnerability risks, and minimize the social attack surface. However, analyst Dominick John pointed out that the proposal may break backward compatibility and require developers to retrain.
