Trading for 9 years.
A few days ago, I went for a check-up.
When the report came out, I stared at those few words for a long time:
Moderate fatty liver.
The doctor looked at me and said:
"You often stay up late, huh?"
I chuckled a bit.
How many traders don’t burn the midnight oil?
9 years.
Countless 3 AMs.
Countless times staring blankly at the candlesticks.
Countless times jolted awake by sudden market spikes.
I've made big profits.
I've also blown big positions.
Now that I'm financially free,
I've realized my body is starting to send me warnings.
Fatty liver.
Prostate calcification.
Various issues from long hours of sitting.
Fortunately:
Blood pressure is normal.
Cholesterol is normal.
Other indicators are normal too.
But the doctor told me:
For every hour you sit, get up and move for five minutes.
Sleep earlier at night.
Stay up less.
Eat less spicy food.
Eat less seafood.
After hearing this, I fell silent.
Because these suggestions are not difficult for the average person.
But for a trader,
It's way tougher.
The market won’t wait for you to wake up.
Opportunities won’t wait for you to come back from a walk.
So many traders end up making money,
But lose to their health.
When I was young, I thought:
Poverty restricts freedom.
Later I realized:
Illness truly restricts freedom.
You can buy luxury cars.
You can buy mansions.
You can buy designer watches.
But you can’t buy back a healthy liver.
You can’t buy back a youthful body.
This past month, I've started losing weight.
I've started exercising.
I've started forcing myself to stay up less.
My body feels obviously better than before.
Suddenly, I realized one thing:
Making money is a skill.
Surviving until the end is the real ability.
To all the brothers still burning the midnight oil watching the charts:
The numbers in your account matter.
But the only thing that can walk with you to the end,
Is always your body.
