What Is Aevo?

Aevo is a decentralized exchange (DEX) focused on derivatives trading, including options and perpetual futures. The DEX operates on a Layer 2 built with Optimism’s OP Stack, an optimistic rollup framework designed to scale Ethereum applications. This setup allows Aevo to provide faster transactions and lower costs while still benefiting from Ethereum’s security.

History and Background

Aevo was developed to address challenges in decentralized derivatives trading, such as high latency and network congestion. The project has received backing from investors including Paradigm, Dragonfly Capital, Coinbase, and Yzi Labs. By introducing one of the first derivatives-focused Layer 2 platforms, Aevo established itself as an early player in decentralized derivatives markets.

How Does Aevo Work?

Aevo is built on the OP Stack, an open-source framework developed by Optimism for creating Layer 2 rollups. It allows transactions to be processed off-chain at lower cost and higher speed, while final settlement and security remain anchored to Ethereum.
To further enhance performance, Aevo uses an off-chain order book and matching engine. Orders are matched off-chain, which lowers latency and makes trading more responsive, similar to the speed of centralized exchanges. 

At the same time, the system maintains transparency because matched trades are posted back on-chain for final settlement. This hybrid model strikes a balance between execution speed and the accountability of blockchain-based record-keeping.

What Is AEVO?

AEVO is the native token of the Aevo protocol, with a fixed supply of one billion tokens. It supports governance functions, allowing holders to vote on protocol upgrades and parameters. The token originated from a rebrand of Ribbon Finance’s RBN token, consolidating the ecosystem under a single identity.
