USD1, a Trump-backed stablecoin launched by WLFI, has surged past $3.07 billion in market capitalization, making it the 32nd largest crypto asset globally and one of the fastest-growing stablecoins in recent history. The explosive growth is largely driven by Binance’s aggressive support, including a Booster program offering up to 20% APR and the 1:1 replacement of BUSD collateral with USD1, effectively plugging the token into Binance’s core ecosystem. Strategic partnerships with platforms like Coinbase, FalconX, Raydium, and Solana have further accelerated adoption, particularly among retail users.
However, the rise hasn’t been clean. USD1 recently exposed liquidity weaknesses when a flash crash on the BTC/USD1 pair briefly sent Bitcoin down to $24,000 before rebounding to $87,000, raising concerns about market depth and stability. Beyond technical risks, the project is surrounded by political controversy, with critics questioning whether a stablecoin linked to the Trump family can truly claim to represent grassroots financial inclusion. The situation intensified after reports of a $2 billion MGX–Binance deal settled in USD1, coinciding with Trump’s pardon of former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, fueling accusations of political influence and backroom leverage.
Despite the noise, USD1 adoption is growing fast, volumes are climbing, and incentives remain attractive. Whether USD1 becomes a lasting retail-focused stablecoin or a politically charged experiment riding Binance’s power remains unresolved—but one thing is clear: this isn’t just another stablecoin, it’s a financial and political statement wrapped in a token.
