$NEAR đš The quantum blockchain race has begun: NEAR sets an ambitious goal for 2027!
The quantum threat to the digital asset industry is no longer a theory from the future. Large ecosystems are officially entering the fight for post-quantum security, and NEAR sets a high pace.
The NEAR team announced plans to transfer the validator consensus to quantum-resistant rails by the end of 2027 (this deadline is a benchmark for development).
đ What's already done and what's ahead?
Mainnet is already ready for the upgrade: In July, NEAR deployed NIST-approved post-quant signatures. Users can safely change keys within one transaction - without creating new accounts and transferring assets.
Difficulties of consensus: Developers openly note that the current post-quantum cryptography is still too "heavy" for validators, so the work will be done on a large scale.
Challenge for Chain Signatures: The most difficult task is to implement a quantum-resistant MPC (threshold signature) to manage more than 30 networks. The industry has not yet found ready candidates for this task.
The infrastructure is adapting: Hardware wallets like Ledger are already laying the technical base for working with new, larger keys.
đ Trend to advance
NEAR does not act in a vacuum: Ethereum, XRP Ledger and Solana are also gradually moving towards post-quantum Defence. The issue of resistance to quantum computers is becoming a key criterion of reliability for first-level blockchains.
