Tesla is expanding its share of the U.S. electric vehicle market as legacy automakers pull back, according to The Wall Street Journal. According to ChainCatcher, Motor Intelligence data showed Tesla's market share reached 52% in the first eight months of 2026, up from 43% in the same period last year.

Tesla's U.S. sales fell 16% year over year, but the overall electric vehicle market contracted more sharply, declining 30%.
