L1 blockchain TAC said on August 22 that an attacker used a vulnerability in the Cosmos EVM precompile layer to transfer funds from a single account. The team paused on-chain operations at block height 24,671,475 to stop the attack from continuing. According to Foresight News, TAC said the flaw was not specific to TAC code but existed in a shared Cosmos EVM module, and other chains using the module were hit by similar attacks within one day.
TAC said the incident involved a transfer of funds rather than new token issuance, so total supply did not change. About 298.6 million TAC were moved from one account to another, and only TAC tokens were affected, while other on-chain assets were not harmed. The team is completing a technical review and restart plan, which it expects to release tomorrow. The plan will adjust abnormal TAC balances caused by the attack and include necessary Cosmos fixes. TAC said it is working with SEAL 911 and related exchanges to trace the transferred funds.
