Xi'an will upgrade its auto consumption subsidy policy from August 1, offering personal buyers of new energy passenger vehicles listed in China's vehicle purchase tax exemption catalogue a subsidy of 2% of the invoice price, capped at 10,000 yuan. For newly launched 2026 new energy models, buyers will receive an extra 2,000 yuan for cars priced from 90,000 yuan to 150,000 yuan, and an extra 3,000 yuan for cars priced at 150,000 yuan or above. Used passenger car buyers will get 1.5% of the invoice price, up to 4,000 yuan, according to Jiemian News. The policy runs from August 1, 2026 to October 8, 2026, with funding to end once the budget is exhausted.
BYD said on August 1 that its July vehicle sales totaled 419,211 units, including 411,072 passenger vehicles. Overseas sales of passenger vehicles and pickup trucks reached 179,841 units, up 124.3% year on year. Jiemian News also reported that Chery Group sold 276,820 vehicles in July, up 23.3%, including 202,533 exports, up 70.1%, while its new energy vehicle sales rose 97.5% to 129,067 units. Geely Auto Group sold 250,161 vehicles in July, with overseas sales at 107,000 and new energy vehicle sales at 160,165. Other automakers also reported July deliveries and sales gains, including Leapmotor, which said deliveries climbed 102% to 101,267 units, and NIO, which delivered 35,934 vehicles, up 71.0%.
