As of March 30, 2026, Tether has officially engaged KPMG to conduct its first-ever comprehensive independent financial statement audit of the reserves backing its USDT stablecoin. This marks a major shift from the "point-in-time" attestations the company has used for years. 

2026 Audit Developments
Auditor Selection: After a competitive process, Tether confirmed it has signed a "Big Four" firm, with reports identifying the firm as KPMG.
System Preparation: Tether also hired PwC to help prepare its internal systems and controls ahead of the full review.
Audit Scope: Unlike previous attestations, this full audit will cover assets, liabilities, internal controls, and reporting systems for its approximately $185 billion in USDT reserves.
Timeline: While the process is underway, Tether has not yet committed to a public completion date.
