Commander: Requires the commander to possess five qualities: wisdom, trustworthiness, benevolence, courage, and strictness. Seven Calculations
- Who has the Way: Compare which ruler can gain the people's hearts more effectively, making the people united with the ruler.
- Who has the capable commander: Compare the abilities of the commanders on both sides.
- Who has Heaven and Earth: Measure which side can better occupy favorable timing and location.
- Which side's laws are more enforced: Judge which side's military laws are more rigorously enforced.
- Which side has stronger troops: Assess the combat effectiveness of both armies.
- Which side has better-trained soldiers: Examine which side's soldiers are better trained.
