The vision for LUKSO is to serve as the initial home for every Universal Profile — a blockchain initiated as a birthplace for new standards, an open, permission-less playground for decentralized applications and social platforms to flourish, and test what’s possible when accounts replace wallets as the foundation of interaction.

LUKSO is not a competitor to other chains; it is an experimentation frontier, a space where we push the boundaries of decentralized identity, social interaction, and economics.

Here, protocols, assets, and applications can interact automatically with profiles, unlocking new behaviors, applications, and economic models that cannot exist with standards that do not inform other smart contracts, like ERC20. The goal is collaboration — to demonstrate what’s possible and inspire a broader movement toward more advanced account infrastructures.

Another important set of standards that needed improvement are the token and NFT standards (ERC20 and ERC721).

To allow for novel protocols, we needed to make them interact with both sender and recipient, add flexibility to metadata, and make them extendable. These resulted in what we call Token and NFT2.0 (LSP7 and LSP8) that seamlessly interoperate with Universal Profiles and other smart contracts.

@ERC725Account are unified identities: Representing the same identity on-chain and off-chain, creating a single, discoverable profile (LSP3) that can be social and economic in Web2 and Web3 apps. While keeping its on-chain history consistently tied to the identity, allowing for long-term reputation and verifiability. It can be the identity of a user, collective, company, DAO or even an app or AI.

As far as we know, LUKSO is the first blockchain that truly redefines the core smart contract standards for dApp developers in a holistic way, while still being part of the larger Ethereum ecosystem — it provides new frontier for standards development and experimentation that we invite everyone to participate and learn from.

We chose to create a new Layer 1 blockchain, using the most sophisticated and developed PoS consensus algorithm from Ethereum’s Mainnet.
