DeFi just got its biggest consolidation play of the year.

Aerodrome and Velodrome, the dominant DEXs on Base and OP Mainnet, have officially merged into Aero, a unified onchain spot exchange launching across seven networks: Ethereum, Base, OP Mainnet, Arbitrum, Ink, Arc, and Robinhood Chain.

The numbers matter. Aerodrome handled 58% of Base's DEX volume in Q3. Velodrome took 60% of OP Mainnet's. Together, these seven networks process roughly $120B a month in DEX trading.

The new $AERO token is live. Old AERO converts 1:1, VELO converts at ~0.044, and ve-positions become sAERO, earning a share of real exchange revenue. The old ve(3,3) weekly voting model is gone, replaced by revenue-linked emissions with an 8% annualized target. A genuine attempt at sustainable tokenomics.

The market likes it: both tokens jumped ~20%+ on the announcement.

Honest risk: migrations are where things break. Self-custodied holders must manually upgrade through official portals, and scammers are already hunting for this. Only use official links. And DeFi mega-mergers have a mixed track record on actually delivering the promised synergies.
