U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Thursday that when Chinese President Xi Jinping visits the United States later this month to meet U.S. President Donald Trump, the two sides are expected to seek ways to reduce the trade deficit and may announce new measures on agriculture and non-tariff barriers to boost U.S. farm exports to China, according to ETNet.

Greer said in a Fox News interview that Washington is not seeking a comprehensive, large-scale trade deal with China at this stage, but instead aims to manage bilateral economic and trade ties pragmatically.

Separately, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said at a White House press briefing that China has shown a cooperative attitude and responded to several U.S. requests when asked whether Washington's economic war on Iran would work without Chinese cooperation. China's Commerce Ministry spokesperson Huang Ling said U.S. claims about so-called economic imbalances and overcapacity at G20 meetings amount to protectionism and are being used as a pretext to pressure and restrict China.
