Standard Chartered Just Opened Institutional Crypto Trading in Dubai 🏦

Standard Chartered has launched spot cryptocurrency trading for institutional clients in the United Arab Emirates, offering access to Bitcoin and Ether through its existing FX trading infrastructure. Reuters reports the bank is the first globally systemically important bank to provide institutional spot crypto trading in the Gulf nation.

The service is being offered through the bank's Dubai operations and allows institutional customers to trade digital assets alongside traditional currencies on the same platform. That's a meaningful step for crypto because clients don't need to rely entirely on specialist crypto exchanges to access spot markets.

The move also reflects the UAE's growing role as a digital-asset hub. Major financial institutions are increasingly building regulated crypto services in the region, bringing traditional banking infrastructure and digital assets closer together.

For Bitcoin and Ethereum, this is another institutional adoption milestone. When a globally important bank starts putting spot crypto trading directly alongside its established financial services, crypto becomes a little less like an alternative market—and a little more like part of the financial system itself. 👀
