On August 2, well-known trader Killa published an analysis saying that as BTC enters a brand-new monthly cycle, the market has already formed a strong bearish consensus. According to historical patterns, the probability of a rebound at the beginning of the month is relatively high.
He reviewed past market behavior and found that when the market is gripped by intense bearish sentiment and a coin enters a new cycle phase, it often becomes easier to see an opposite-direction correction. This rule only fails when a major trend is about to fully reverse—such as in the stretches of market action seen in last November, this February, and June.
Killa believes that BTC is still maintaining a range-bound consolidation structure. With price hovering near the bottom range of the bear market, there are two possible paths ahead. The first is the final leg of downside to test the $57,000 support level. The second is that since this month’s rebound started, price could continue to move back and forth within the range. Even if there remains downward pressure in the medium and long term, based on the market structure, a more reasonable scenario this month would be an advance of 2% to 4% first.
Repeated grinding at the bottom of the cycle is precisely the energy-accumulation phase. In the short term, there’s no need to panic too much. Recently, the Coldcard wallet suffered a hacker attack that continues to escalate. Small Bitcoin transfer activity has simultaneously surged, reaching the highest level since the FTX collapse. The market is once again debating issues related to the security of Bitcoin self-custody.
CryptoQuant research head Julio Moreno disclosed data showing that the number of Bitcoin transfers on-chain of less than 1 BTC has risen to its highest level since November 2022. On a single day, about 39,600 BTC were moved, which is only about 300 BTC lower than the record set on November 16, 2022—just a few days after FTX filed for bankruptcy (39,900 BTC). Users are actively taking action to mitigate risks.
Previously reported, the Bitcoin hardware wallet Coldcard was attacked, and the stolen funds have increased to 1,367.05 BTC, worth approximately $88.6 million, involving 4,585 addresses. Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy, said the attack is still ongoing. Users who have not yet moved funds should immediately transfer their assets out of the addresses generated by Coldcard.
