Pavel Durov announces crypto wallet for one billion Telegram users
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, said that the messaging app with more than one billion users will have an onboard non-custodial crypto wallet, enabling instant and free transactions with Gram, Telegram’s native cryptocurrency previously known as Toncoin.
Unlike the current Wallet bot, which operates partly via a custodial mechanism and is run by a separate company, the new wallet will be built into the app and will be non-custodial from the start. However, many specific details have not yet been disclosed, including whether the new wallet will replace or coexist with the Wallet bot, what types of assets will be supported beyond Gram, and how key management will be handled at scale for people who have never used crypto.
