Shares in Yancoal Australia Ltd (ASX:YAL) rose to their highest levels in nearly a month on Tuesday after the coal miner announced record production of saleable coal attributed to it during the second quarter, supported by higher realised coal prices, while maintaining its full-year production guidance.

Yancoal shares rose 3.7% to reach 5.89 Australian dollars, its highest level since 22/06/2025, outperforming the overall performance of the S&P/ASX 200 index, which saw little change.

Production of saleable coal attributable to the company increased by 20% from the previous quarter to a record 10.8 million tonnes, while coal sales attributable to the company rose by 41% to 11.6 million tonnes. The company explained that activity shifted during the quarter from waste removal to coal mining, which contributed to higher output across most operations.

Yancoal’s realised coal price rose by 9% quarter-on-quarter to 160.00 Australian dollars per tonne, reflecting an 11% increase in realised thermal coal prices and a 3% increase in realised coking coal prices.

The company kept its 2026 guidance unchanged, as it still expects production of saleable coal attributable to it to range between 36.5 million and 40.5 million tonnes. However, it said operations are performing strongly and that production is likely to finish in the upper half of that range.

The company also said that capital expenditure is expected to come in at the low end of the guidance range of between 750 million and 900 million Australian dollars, while cash operating costs are likely to be in the upper half of the expected range rather than above it, after pressures stemming from diesel prices eased.

The company’s chief executive, Sharf Burra, said the company achieved a record output of saleable coal attributable to it in the first half of 19.8 million tonnes, up 5% compared with the previous year, putting Yancoal on track to exceed its record production figure logged last year.
