The White House is tracking an outbreak of cyclosporiasis caused by contaminated food products and promised to provide the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with the necessary resources, the White House press secretary, Caroline Levitt, said on Thursday.

At a press briefing, Levitt told journalists that the federal government is working to establish the original source of the outbreak.

"We intend to provide the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with all the resources they need," Levitt said.

The spokesperson said that although thousands of cases of cyclospora infection are recorded every year, the current outbreak shows an unusually high number of people getting sick.

According to Levitt, the administration is working with the FDA and partners at the federal, regional, and local levels to improve methods for detecting the disease and developing appropriate recommendations. At present, the government continues its efforts to determine the initial source of the outbreak.
