Market moves lower ahead of the holiday week
The Colombo Stock Exchange started the day higher but fell sharply in early trading and continued to drift lower, showing strong selling and weak buying interest.
ASPI fell by 143 points to close at 22,149
S&P SL20 dropped 10 points to finish at 6,057
The main stocks pulling the market down were DOCK, MELS, HHL, JKH, and NDB.
Both high-net-worth and retail investor activity stayed low, continuing the quiet trading seen throughout the week.
Daily turnover: LKR 3.5 billion, about 7% below the monthly average
Top sectors by turnover:
Capital Goods: 31%
Materials + Food, Beverage & Tobacco: 22% combined
Foreign investors were net sellers, with an outflow of LKR 42.6 million.
