Four Major Decentralized Storage Networks
Filecoin (FIL), Arweave (AR), Storj (STORJ), and Sia (SC) are four well-known decentralized storage networks.
1. Filecoin (FIL): A decentralized peer-to-peer network utilizing blockchain technology, developed by Protocol Labs, officially launched in October 2020. It was initially designed as an incentive layer for the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) protocol, allowing users to rent out storage space, creating a global network that operates without centralized data centers. Filecoin uses two consensus mechanisms, Proof of Replication and Proof of Spacetime, to ensure that data is appropriately replicated and stored long-term. Users participate in the network by staking nodes and earn FIL tokens by renting out storage space and bandwidth, with a total supply of 2 billion FIL.
